Crappie USA will return to Lake Cumberland April 8-9. This is the opportunity for local anglers to compete for a minimum payback of $10,000 in cash, prizes and a chance to advance to the 2016 Cabela's Crappie USA Classic. A total of 54 teams will qualify to compete at The Classic event that will be held October 27-29 on Kentucky and Barkley lakes at Paris, Tenn.

In a list that highlights 11 of Kentucky's most enchanting manmade wonders, Onlyinyourstate.com has selected Lake Cumberland No. 1.

"This beautiful 63,000 acre manmade lake has more than 1,200 miles of shoreline and is one of the 10 largest manmade lakes in the U.S.," the author, Jenn Shockley, writes about Lake Cumberland.

Other landmarks selected in this list include the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, the state's dams, and Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption.

In February, Pulaski County High School will host eight prep school teams from across the nation whose rosters include some of the top recruits in NCAA Division I men’s basketball.

One of those recruits is Sacha Killeya-Jones, a Virginia Episcopal 6-foot-10 power forward who has committed to the No. 13-ranked University of Kentucky Wildcats for the 2016-17 season.

The Don Marshall Ram “E” Classic begins Feb. 6 and includes two days of play for local and prep teams.

National Park Service will share progress, answer questions at two meetings

Two meetings in January will give the public a chance to learn about a National Park Service study that will determine if Mill Springs Battlefield should be added to the national park system.

On Dec. 19, 2014, Congress passed legislation (Public Law 113—291, Title XXX, Subtitle D, Sec. 3051) authorizing the Secretary of the Interior to undertake a study that will examine the national significance of the battlefield, and determine if it will be suitable and feasible to designate the battlefield as a new unit of the national park system. Based on legislative guidance, the National Park Service will focus this study on battlefield lands that comprise the existing National Historic Landmark boundary related to the battle of Mill Springs. Some of the battlefield lands are currently owned by the Mill Springs Battlefield Association — a non-profit organization established in 1992 to preserve, protect, maintain and interpret Mill Springs Battlefield. Additional lands and resources associated with Mill Springs Battlefield may also be identified through this study process.

NKT Television has just published BrushPile Fishing's video coverage of the 2014 Cabela's Crappie USA Classic held on Lake Cumberland. 250 of the top anglers in the nation competed for $107,000.00 in cash and prizes.
